Food contact products exported to the United States are regulated as indirect food additive under the Title 21 Code of Federal Regulations (21 CFR).
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is an agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. It is responsible for protecting the public health by assuring the safety, effectiveness, quality, and security of human and veterinary drugs, vaccines and other biological products, and medical devices.
In Japan, the Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare (MHLW) has established specifications for various food contact materials and their raw materials. Japan is also developing a positive list of substances or materials that are permitted for use in manufacturing food contact materials or articles. In Korea, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) has established standards and specifications for various food contact materials and their raw materials.
Food comes into contact with many materials and articles during its production, processing, storage, preparation and serving, before its eventual consumption. Such materials and articles are called Food Contact Materials (FCMs). GB 4806 series standards and GB 9685 are national mandatory standards. As long as it is a food contact product sold in China, it must meet the corresponding standards.
