Fertilizer safety is the source guarantee of food safety. The State Administration for Market Regulation and the Standardization Administration approved the mandatory national standards GB 38400-2019 Limit requirements for toxic and harmful substances in fertilizers on December 17, 2019, and they will be formally implemented on July 1, 2020.

In today's fertilizer market, the quality of products is mixed, and fertilizer fraud scandals are common. How to choose fertilizer rationally is crucial. It is necessary to accurately check the quality of fertilizer, and strictly control the quality and safety risks in product planting, fertilizer production, circulation and sales.

The test items cover all the items in Table 1, the limit requirements (basic items) of toxic and harmful substances in fertilizers in GB 38400-2019.

Type test should be conducted in the following cases:

  ▪ Before the new product is put on the market;

  ▪ At the time of formal production, inspection shall be conducted at least once every two years after regular or accumulated to a certain amount;

  ▪ when the investigation occurred because of fertilizer quality accidents and disputes;

  ▪ When the government administration department puts forward the requirement of type inspection.
