    SASO RoHS will be implemented soon

    On July 4, 2022, the “Technical Regulation for Restriction of hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment” (SASO RoHS) will be enforced on small electrical home appliances. Products must meet the regulatory requirements before they can enter the Saudi market. Products that do not meet the regulatory requirements will face withdrawal and recall, destruction and other penalties, the responsible party may also be sanctioned by laws such as the Anti-Commercial Fraud Law.

     

    Background

    On July 9, 2021, the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) officially released the “Technical Regulation for Restriction of hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment” (SASO RoHS). The regulations were originally scheduled to be enforced from January 5, 2022, but SASO later issued a notice to delay the implementation by six months and enforce it in stages according to product categories.

    2. The supplier responsible for placing electrical and electronic devices and equipment on the market shall obtain the product certificate of conformity（Product CoC）which issued by a notified body approved by SASO. In addition, within the validity period of the product certificate of conformity (Product CoC), for each batch of goods, the importer needs to upload the necessary information and materials through the SABER platform to obtain the batch certificate of conformity (Shipment CoC).
